DESCRIPTION:
Through this national program, engineering students have the opportunity to compete for a $5,000 scholarship based on academic performance and a written essay. Scholarship funds will be awarded in January 2010 to be used toward eligible expense for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

Office of Policy and Planning Internship Program
The Office of Policy offers
non-paid internships for interested undergraduate, graduate, and
doctoral students. Past interns have had diverse educational interests,
such as pharmacy, law, government, economics, and management. Our
interns have worked on congressional hearings, drug importation
investigations, novel disease outbreak issues, and briefings for senior
agency officials. As an Office of Policy intern, you can expect to work
on substantive projects, develop professional skills, and benefit from
the personal attention of a mentor.
Purpose of Internship Program
The primary purpose of the Office of Policy internship program is to
give students an opportunity to learn about federal programs, policies,
and practices first-hand. By the end of the internship, each student
will have the skills and knowledge necessary to allow him or her to
make a significant contribution to public health.
Intern Qualifications
All Interns must:
- Be at least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship.
- Have completed at least two semesters of college education.
- Be a current undergraduate or graduate student attending a college
or university in the United States, or have just graduated in the same
year of the Internship.
Selection
Interns will be selected based on their application and demonstrated interest in public service. This may include:
Cover letter and resume;
Academic excellence;
3 Letters of recommendation;
Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of government and politics;
Evidence of the skills needed to assist FDA;
Personal maturity;
The candidateÕs potential contribution to the Program; and
The anticipated benefits for the candidate.
Upon acceptance, candidates must consent to the following:
- Security clearance prior to their start date
- Random drug test
All security measures are confidential and intended to protect the applicant as well as FDA.

ORISE Science Internship Program (NCTR)
This program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and is designed for science and mathematics students enrolled full-time in undergraduate or graduate schools located in the FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) commuting area. The program provides long-term development and hands-on research and laboratory experience mentored by FDA scientists for students preparing for future careers in toxicology, regulatory science, or related scientific disciplines.
During regular semesters, student participants may work a maximum of 20 hours per week and convert to 40 hours per week during holiday periods and summer. Stipends are determined by the level of education and are considered fellowship grants.
Requirements:
* Good standing at an accredited U.S. college or university or accepted as an entering graduate student at an accredited U.S. college or university
* Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher (based on A=4.0)
* U.S. citizen
* Proof of health insurance prior to effective date of appointment.
